Girls Brigade

Girls Brigade is a uniformed Christian organization which was founded in 1893.

Here at Eltham Park we have 58 members – 3 Officers, 2 Trainee Officers, 5 Helpers, 1 Warrant Officer, 2 Brigaders, 12 Seniors, 21 Juniors, and 12 Explorers.

Our Company began in 1937, and so last November we had a party to celebrate our 70th birthday! Lots of “Old Girls” attended and were entertained by the Company, were able to look at a display of photographs through the years, and spent an enjoyable afternoon reminiscing.

We are part of the Meridian District and enter as many District events as we can. We took part in the Swimming Gala in October 2007, Young Leader Training in January 2008, the Praise Party in February 2008, and Junior and Explorer Activity Days in March 2008. Our District Sports day is in June.

Throughout the year we try to think of ways of helping other people.

The Company went to sing carols to the residents of Conniffee Court last December; the Seniors and Brigaders worked hard to produce the pantomime “Sleeping Beauty” with which they entertained the Juniors and Explorers at their Christmas Party; the Sport Relief Mile was completed on a very wet Thursday evening in the dark; and we are also raising money for the Demelza House Childrens’ Hospice supporting them in their efforts to raise funds for a new centre being built in Eltham.

Every Thursday evening during Term time you will find us in the Halls from 6 to 9pm. We will be playing games, working on badges, worshipping God, and having a thoroughly good time. Just follow the noise!

Looking further back ... these are some of the things we did earlier during 2007 -

  • the District Rededication service at Southborough Lane Baptist Church
  • the GB Annual Fellowship Weekend at Sutton
  • our second Swimming Gala (we took Second place and won a trophy)
  • our GB Camp weekend at Edenbridge (we enjoyed games, crafts, worship, walking, and lots of mud and food)
  • Junior Activity day at Bromley Baptist Church (we won a Certificate for the Easter Banner we designed and made)
  • we held a joint display with EBPC Boys Brigade (we had cheerleaders, marching, and our very own “Fame Idol”
  • we took part in the Sports Day at Norman Park, Bromley

We are a very busy and active organisation, and would love you to come and join us too.
